Aspidistra - 13cm

Known as the Cast Iron Plant, Aspidistra elatior has earned its name for good reason. With its glossy, deep green leaves and upright, fountain-like growth, it’s one of the toughest and most reliable houseplants around. Native to the shaded forest floors of East Asia, this plant thrives on neglect, making it perfect for low-maintenance homes or low-light spots.

Light:
Best positioned within 1–2 metres of a North-facing window, or further into the room from an East- or West-facing window. Tolerates shade very well and prefers to avoid direct sunlight.

Water:
Allow the soil to dry out partially between waterings. Check the weight of the pot – water when it feels significantly lighter than usual.

Soil:
Grows well in our chunky houseplant soil mix, which provides the drainage and structure it needs.

Temperature:
Happy in general household temperatures, ideally between 15–24°C. Avoid placing in cold draughts or directly next to heat sources.

Feeding:
Feed every 6–8 weeks during spring and summer with a balanced liquid fertiliser. No need to feed in the cooler months.
